Grand Marais debut.

Grand Marais is a new musical project formed by Erik Sanden, Joe Reyes and Odie. After years of sowing psychadelic-pop strains with their band Buttercup, these three friends are exploring new territory. The musical bed is at times hyper minimal, two acoustic guitars, a bass and a drum -- but the singing is elaborate -- full of harmonies. Grand Marais blends punk, dance and acoustic folk music in a natural way. The songs are catchy - "Opening Band" speaks about a young band that opens a show for an established, popular band with rabid fans that angrily want the main attraction. The band almost dies in the second verse. "Morrissey for Company" uses sparse interrupted melodies to coo about what it is like to be obsessed with a mopey singer, and how too much of a good thing can make you crazy in your head. "Erik Sanden" uses heavy metal structures and rhythms to sing about Grand Marais member Erik Sanden, and his childhood penchant to lie.

This is their first show.
